• Probabilities of effectiveness are based on the chances of all methods selected failing to prevent a pregnancy. For instance, if a condom fails, but an IUD succeeds to prevent a pregnancy, that is considered a success. The end results, however, are based on how likely it is all of the methods selected will fail. Given this figure, one should have an idea how often sexual intercourse, given the selected methods, will result in a pregnancy (NN% of the time).
